At the basis of the constitution of the physical sciences since Galileo is a basic circumstance which, to the extent that these sciences have progressed, has become increasingly emphasized: the rigorous separation between the reality of the world as it is constructed by these sciences and the qualitative, perceptual, and therefore "subjective" aspect under which the world presents itself to us so far as we are beings endowed with a psychophysical organization.
