Science and the call of the wild

Joseph Agassi

pp. 57-71

This is a review of a remarkable book by Hans Peter Duerr, Dreanitinie: Between the Wild and the Civilized, 1978. It is over-scholarly, but not by received procedures. I will overlook this, except to say that it makes the book somewhat tedious. Its success in Germany made him a cult figure and had English and an Italian translations. His chief idea is that there is no gap between magic and science, dream and awareness, the wild and the civilized.
