(1994) The unity of the mind, Basingstoke, Palgrave Macmillan.
Hume's task of finding out what unifies the mind, purely on the basis of what is presented in consciousness, is doomed to failure. To explain why various states are found together in one consciousness one must go beyond those states. I suggested a physical relation of co-consciousness describable in physiological or functional terms. This presupposes that there is something physical besides the stream of consciousness.
