Assessment and management of domestic violence cases within a community mental health services framework

Stella Pantelidou , Stelios Stylianidis

pp. 343-364

This chapter describes the phenomenon of domestic violence, its rise over recent years in Greece and abroad and its consequences, placing emphasis mainly on the way that cases of child abuse and abuse of adults are assessed and managed by community mental health services. In addition, it presents a guideline for the detection of domestic violence as well as the proposed therapeutic approaches based on existing literature. Reference is also made to the management of a child abuse case and the therapeutic plan implemented, in cooperation with all community actors, in the course of the operation of the Mental Health Mobile Unit for Northeast Cyclades. Finally, it highlights the importance of developing actions to prevent domestic violence.
